Dublin Christmas Breaks

Grafton Street Area

There is nothing like the hustle and bustle of Grafton Street in the build up to Christmas- and even if you are just window shopping, it’s still a great way to pass the time! The likes of the Disney Store and Brown Thomas have deservedly earned a reputation for remarkable Christmas window dressing each year: and 2017 looks to be no different- they are both filled with festive magic, to delight old and young alike.

November 2017 sees the reopening of Bewley’s Café: a treasured landmark of Dublin’s Grafton Street- and if the queues are anything to go by, the renovations have been a real success. Bewley’s Spiced Buns are synonymous with the holiday season for many, and provide a well-earned treat after some retail therapy.

At the top of Grafton Street, St. Stephen’s Green shopping centre is also in the festive spirit, with Father Christmas in residence from the end of November right up until Christmas Eve: a real treat for children in the lead up to Christmas, and guaranteed to make memories for the whole family.

Henry Street

Just a short walk (or an even shorter ride on the Luas: with Dublin’s newest tram link between South and Northside) across the river brings guests to the lively Henry Street and O’Connell Street, whose streets are filled with a festive buzz from Moore Street Market all the way to Mary Street.

Visitors to this area can make the most of the larger department stores and high street shops: sure to provide gift solutions for even the fussiest of recipients, or plenty of choice when looking for that perfect Christmas party outfit.

Gaiety Theatre Pantomime

The Gaiety Theatre Pantomime is the highlight of every festive events calendar: and always a show like no other in town. This year’s production is the hair-larious Rapunzel: promising lavish and magical performances for the whole family. Performances start on 27th November and run through to 7th January 2018.

Always a fast-seller, so be sure to snap up your tickets quickly: and where better to stay than the Drury Court Hotel- just three minutes from the Gaiety itself!

Our friendly front desk team are always on hand to provide unique ideas for the best places to eat and socialise with your family: guaranteeing you a stay to remember, for all the right reasons.

Wild Lights @ Dublin Zoo

Taking place in the grounds of Dublin Zoo during the evening (from 5-8pm), this is a magical exhibition of lanterns and illuminated sculptures, all inspired by nature.

Accompanied by a Chinese-style market, this is a novel and exciting event for all of the family to enjoy: tickets are selling quickly- especially at weekends- so be sure to prebook them here. And remember that these tickets do not provide entry into the zoo: the animals will all be sleeping during the evening, so this is for the Lights Exhibition only!
