Stephen’s Green Park
An iconic glass shopping centre, just 1 minute from Drury Court
Just a 2 minute walk from the hotel is St Stephen’s Green park: a real oasis in the heart of the city centre and ideal for a stroll in all seasons. Perfect for couples, families or a solo wander with a cup of coffee, the park is 22 acres in size and features lots of different landscapes to explore.
For those with an interest in history, Fusilier’s Arch (the stone structure at the entrance to the park) is engraved with the names of those who fought in the second Boer War. As St Stephen’s Green was defended by the Irish Citizen Army during the 1916 Easter Rebellion, bullet-holes are still visible on the structure: an immediate link to this important time in the founding of the Republic of Ireland.
There are also several statues of notable Irish figures, including Robert Emmet, Constance Markievicz, James Joyce and Theobald Wolfe-Tone located throughout the park.
For nature lovers, a small rockery in the centre of the park backs on to the central pond, where ducks, swans and plenty of seagulls can be found year-round: be sure to ask at reception for a “non-bread” bag of bird feed and turn these into your best friends!
The centre of the park also features seasonal flower beds, interspersed with beautiful fountains and benches: ideal for taking the weight off your feet after a busy day of sightseeing or shopping.
A recently refurbished playground is tucked away between the pavilion and bandstand- separated into junior and senior sections, this is extremely popular with younger visitors to the city.
Opening times vary by season, so please do check with reception for current opening and closing. We are more than happy to recommend jogging routes, taking in Stephen’s Green park, as well as our favourite coffee/ takeaway spots in the area.
